When you think of the South, what is the first thing you think of? Why do you believe that you think this item reminds you of the South?
For me the first thing I associate with the South is fried Chicken. It is something just wholly Southern that is so pervasive throughout the nation. It is not eaten as much in the other parts of the country as it is in the South, but it is the most widely available part of Southern culture in places that are not the South. People come into contact with food everyday and it can be one of most influential ambassadors to one's culture.
Fried chicken has been assimilated into our culture as well. It has been featured in movies, books, and music. The most famous reference to friend chicken, at least currently, is by the Zac Brown Band and their song "Chicken Fried":
